Music For The Young

We begin the joy of making music with joyful play, for it is through play that children learn.

Happily and almost effortlessly, 2 to young-4-year-olds learn the basics of rhythm and melody, dynamics and tempo, pitch and contour through simple musical games, songs, and activities.

Our music lessons for children are creative, positive, well-paced, and gentle; the aspects of music that children learn are real and a firm foundation of music education. And, because parents’ joy in their children and in music is so powerful, parent participation is absolutely essential.

We group students of like ages together so that students can make the most of their time in class. Of course children develop rapidly, so we check to make sure the class level continues to be a good fit.  

Within the particular age grouping, our four-week courses can be taken in any order as each builds upon fundamentals.

MUSIC FOR THE VERY YOUNG - APRIL 2010 - For 2-year-olds

Why should anyone sing who has not been hushed to sleep by lullabies? In this course, parent and child experience the heritage of traditional tunes, folk songs, finger games, and nursery rhymes, from their grandparents' time and just yesterday, creating a delightful family legacy of shared music. The classes are small, so parent and child can focus on one another - and the music. Classes are 50 minutes and begin April 19. Tuition: $64.

MUSIC FOR THE YOUNG - APRIL 2010 - For 3 and young 4-year-olds

Instruments on Parade, this year's second offering in the Music For the Young series, is a fun-filled discovery course that enables 3 year-olds and young 4 year-olds to begin to unleash the music within. Children and their parents joyfully participate in activities involving singing, rhythm, movement, ear training, keyboard and Orff. While the aspects of music the children learn are real, a child's joy in making music is most important. Classes are 60 minutes each, and begin April 19. Tuition: $72.

LET'S BEGIN - SUMMER 2010 - For 3-year-olds

Group music programs are a delight for young children who can learn - almost without effort - the basics of rhythm and melody through such joyful activities as singing, marching, clapping, and playing rhythm instruments. The fun of music is reinforced while the young child acquires fundamental music experiences and skills. And introduction to The Music Studio's music fundamentals program, Let's Begin is designed for children ages three through seven. The course is complete in itself and it enables both students and parents to experience, in a short-term session, the varied musical activities and shared reactions that are part of The Music Studio's school year music fundamentals course. Students are grouped by age and meet for four sessions. Parents attend class with their children and participate with them in many of the class activities. Tuition: $76
