Recreational Piano

Music crosses all cultures and languages, but some gave it up too soon - to their regret - while others never got the chance to start.  The remedy: Recreational Piano.

We developed this program over more than two decades, learning much from our students. From the beginning, we limited class size to eight, grouped students into similar skill sets, and opened classes only to those aged 18 and older.   Students learn to read music and work on repertoire with a slant toward their own musical preference, not just their teacher’s. Students self-pace themselves on theory, technique, and tone, using the teacher as coach. Class sessions vary in length and limited private lessons are sometimes available.   Occasionally, casual get-togethers take place, where students can play for each other if they wish or they can just enjoy the company. There is no performance requirement, but there is a high degree of autonomy and a great deal of humor. Having taught adult students, we've learned that Recreational Piano students know where they want to go. Our job is to help them – help you - get there in the quickest, smartest, and most fun way possible. Without regrets.

Class Schedule

Recreational Piano - 18 and older

The class for those who've never had a piano lesson, but are ready to make music. By the end of the course, students will be able to read treble and bass clef and play simple two-hand music. Classes meet one hour a week and begin in February. Course tuition: $190 plus book(s).

  • Recreational Piano I - Start here if you've wanted to play piano but have never had a lesson. Soon you'll be playing with two hands.
  • Monday 7:30 - 8:30 p.m.
  • Tuesday 10:00 - 11:00 a.m.
  • Recreational Piano II - Enroll here to continue Recreational Piano I or if you took piano lessons for a few years as a child.
  • Monday 7:45 - 8:45 p.m.
  • The No Presser Refresher - For those who want to make their way back to the piano in a way that focuses on the joy of making music together.
  • Thursday 7:30 - 8:30 p.m.
  • Friday 12:15 - 1:00 p.m. (This 45 min. class will run for 13 weeks)
